Job Info –
To advise the Administration on all medical matters relating to WHO staff in the Region, particularly medical adjudication, occupational health and safety, preventive health care and health promotion and education. To promote proactive occupational health policies and best practices and procedures in the medical services in conjunction with Administration and in collaboration with SHW/HQ and UN Medical Directors Working group with the objective of optimizing the health and well-being of WHO staff in the South-East Asia Region. The Regional Medical Services will provide clinical services including medical consultations and emergency medical care during office hours.
Under the direct supervision of the Regional Staff Physician (RSP) and in close interaction with the RMS team, the incumbent performs the following duties:
Clinical Services:
1. Conduct and review recruitment and continuing medical examinations and advice on medical clearance for staff members.
2. Advice on medical clearance and medico-administrative issues related to SSAs in all Country offices. This will include collaborating with the Nurse to oversee the medical clearance status and validity of staff members and SSAs and present required information for communication to Country offices viz., medical clearances and other medico-administrative matters.
3. Coordinate with designated hospitals focal points to monitor condition of serious patients during hospital stay.
4. Occasionally, visit staff at home for purpose of questionable sick-leave determination.
5. Respond to the queries of the staff/non staff on medical issues, vaccinations/other prophylaxis, referral to appropriate specialist or health care facility – in consultation with the Regional Staff Physician.
6. Review reports of medical exams performed by authorized physicians outside the Regional Office with an aim to advice on risk factors, preventive health measures, lifestyle modifications and any other useful guidance including further tests & consultations with specialists in collaboration with RSP.
7. Work as Locum during absence of the Regional Staff Physician.
Health Promotion and Occupational Health:
1. Preparation of in-house preventive health Audio-visual content for staff awareness.
2. Preparation of good quality communication and accurate information updates for the staff on common health issues viz., communicable & non-communicable diseases and air pollution related health hazards etc.
3. Representing RSP on the Occupational Health Safety Committee meeting, as an alternate.
Emergency Operations:
1. Provide medical assistance and handle medical emergencies, in consultation with the Regional Staff Physician, including troubleshooting, coordination and facilitating hospital admissions.
2. Preparation of draft guidance document on preventive measures related to the Emergency/Disaster situation – to include preventive health measures, safety and preparedness measures and any other advisories.
3. Advising staff & their dependents. as required during the emergency situation, including assessment of the overall mental health and well-being of the staff members.
4. Reporting regularly to the Regional Staff Physician (RSP) on the consultations, to coordinate and advice and ensure consistent guidance to staff during any emergency.
5. Support RSP in any medical evacuation.
Medico-administrative support:
1. Coordinating with the team in Regional Medical Services in maintaining and updating medical records of staff and contractual staff ensuring confidentiality as well as tracking / organizing the periodic medical examinations and vaccinations/prophylactic requirements of staff members.
2. Support RSP to coordinate and liaise with WHO/HQ on policy and Staff Health matters.
Administrative matters:
1. Coordinating work within the Regional Medical Services team including the consultants and administrative staff.
2. Perform any other duties as assigned within field of competence.
Essential: University degree in Medicine
Desirable:
Essential: At least five (5) years of Extensive specialized clinical experience
Desirable: Experience in WHO or in another UN/International organization would be an advantage.
– Medical competence with respect to emergency medicine, preventive health care, occupational health and health promotion
– Use of medical equipment viz., defibrillator, ventilator, ECG etc
– Thorough knowledge of modern office procedures and practices. The incumbent keeps abreast of changes in procedures and practices, rules and regulations, organizational structure, in the department, and WHO.

REMUNERATIONRemuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at INR 3,174,179 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
