Job Summary
UBC Sauder’s Marketing and Communications department brings excellence in marketing for the school
and work across a number of program portfolios to create and deliver marketing programs that meet the needs of the
school program portfolios, while strengthening the UBC Sauder brand in the marketplace.

This role is responsible for the coordination and management of various marketing projects, including the creation and
implementation of campaigns across multiple platforms, working closely with our Digital Marketing & UX team to ensure
synergy on the planning and implementation of projects; the effective coordination and implementation of marketing
targeted to key stakeholder groups that support the image and reputation of UBC Sauder.

Key elements of this hands-on marketing position include the project management of digital marketing and communication
projects for a variety of initiatives, in addition to event marketing and promotions, advertising, collateral and more;
responsible for ensuring clear communication with all relevant stakeholders, on-time and on-budget completion of projects,
and high quality across materials.

The Digital Marketing Specialist plays a role in ensuring marketing and communications delivered to stakeholder groups
are aligned with the organization’s brand and effectively implemented in support of the goals and objectives.

Organizational Status
Reports to the Associate Director, Marketing. Is a part of the Marketing & Communications team and works
closely with other internal staff and our program partners.

Work Performed
Digital Marketing:

  • Creation of campaigns: supports project leads and program staff; develops, plans and builds campaigns with input from

the Digital Marketing & UX team in accordance with best practices for appropriate account structure across digital

  • Campaign project management: reviews weekly assessments and updates on optimization and monthly changes.
  • Utilizes relevant tools to create and manage audiences, ensuring audiences are kept up to date for campaigns.
  • Liaises with and seeks input from the internal Digital Marketing & UX team on digital initiatives, objective and goals setting,

implementation of all digital assets, social media and overall campaign tracking.

  • Ensures the appropriate campaign analytics are defined, tracked and reported on for all social campaigns.
  • Works with internal and external designers on required assets for collateral, online assets such as e-newsletters, social

media or display advertisements.

  • Actively provides recommendations for improvement on all aspects of all campaigns, whether pre-existing or


  • Provides input on activity of agency managed campaigns; reviews reports, campaigns, and verify actions taken, consolidates

feedback from project team and conveys to the agency.

  • Liaises with internal Digital Marketing & UX team and external digital advertising agencies working on marketing

campaigns as required to provide feedback, audience insights as well as assets.
Social Media:

  • Implements project tactics based on internal and external unit objectives. Ensures this projects are aligned with unit

subject matter experts in both digital marketing and social media.

  • Liaises with internal and external content creators (e.g., Digital Marketing & UX, students, program partners,

agency/creative firm, and writers) on the production of digital marketing and communications materials, while working
closely with the marketing team to ensure consistency with the brand identity and graphic standards.

  • Collaborates with the Social Media Specialist to update and maintain branded content on social media platforms to keep

content current/relevant.

  • Works with the Social Media Specialist to develop social media programs to engage key influencers.
  • Works with the Social Media Specialist to develop metrics and dashboards that measures campaign ROI.
  • Coordinates meetings and briefings to facilitate marketing and communications planning between departments and key


  • Manages project requirements, developing creative briefs for design agencies, creating project plans and timelines,

managing estimates and budgets, coordinating feedback and approvals, and managing project communications between
internal stakeholders and vendors to ensure projects are completed and delivered in an efficient and fluent manner.

  • Creates post campaign reports incorporating digital media results sourced from the Digital Marketing & UX team to

ensure reports are informed.

  • Manages digital marketing initiatives and production of marketing materials including print materials and resourcing of

marketing assets, budgeting, and all aspects of marketing production.

  • Partners with external vendors, e.g. agency/creative design firms, copywriters, photographers and videographers, and

printers, to facilitate the production of marketing and communications materials.

  • Works with the Communications team on initiatives relating marketing campaigns.
  • Contributes to the ongoing efforts of the Marketing and Communications Department in supporting internal stakeholders’

marketing needs by ensuring available assets, resources, guidelines, graphic standards, processes and protocols are
being leveraged and utilized effectively.

  • Stays informed on new trends in marketing; provides ongoing recommendations for new initiatives and tactics to deliver

on strategic objectives and goals.

  • Carries out related duties as required, in keeping with the qualifications of the position and the requirements of the job.
  • Assumes new responsibilities as required.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
Decision-making is based on a thorough knowledge of the policies and procedures of the UBC Sauder Marketing &
Communications department. The role exercises initiative and judgment in establishing priorities and carrying tasks
through to completion, and must demonstrate tact and discretion.
The position has dealings with staff, faculty and students within UBC Sauder and UBC, as well as numerous external
audiences. Error in the performance of duties or in the exercise of discretion may result in significant damage to UBC
Sauder’s reputation both internally and externally to the community and to the UBC Sauder brand.

Supervision Received
This position reports to the Associate Director, Marketing and works closely with other marketing staff and internal staff at
UBC Sauder.

Supervision Given
This position has no direct reports.

Minimum Qualifications
Diploma in Marketing. Minimum of one year of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in business or communications is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in digital marketing.
  • Strong marketing project management skills and a proven track record in coordinating marketing projects with multiple


  • Strong knowledge/understanding of digital advertising platforms, such as Google Adwords, Facebook or LinkedIn.
  • Knowledge of digital analytics tools, particularly Google Analytics, Facebook Insights and Ad manager and YouTube


  • Experience with MS Office Suite, including a superior knowledge level of Excel.
  • Experience in writing copy for digital advertising or social media, especially from a storytelling perspective.
  • Experience working within a complex organizational structure; and understanding of the academic and public sector

environment is a strong asset.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
